ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track and field team was recognized by the USTFCCCA as the No. 11 team in the nation in its preseason poll Tuesday. The Knights are the only Conference USA team present in the rankings and are second only to Florida (No. 5) among programs in the state of Florida.

Clemson garnered the No. 1 spot followed by Kansas, reigning national champion Oregon and LSU.

The Knights recorded the program's most successful indoor season in 2012 when UCF finished eighth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Thanks in part two medalist performances in the 60 meters by Octavious Freeman and Aurieyall Scott and a total of five All-American honors, UCF's placing marked the highest showing of any Florida program at the meet.

Coupled with the outdoor season, UCF has not fallen out of the top 25 dating to April 26, 2011. USTFCCCA will release its next top-25 poll Jan. 22.

UCF opens the indoor season this Friday at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
