GUANAJUATO, Mexico - Representing Team USA and the Black and Gold, Aurieyall Scott and Octavious Freeman ran away with the competition in the 100-meter finals at the North American, Central American and Caribbean U-23 Track and Field Championships on Friday evening.
They crossed the finish line smiling ear to ear as the first Knights to ever medal at the bi-annual meet.
Scott earned gold with a season-best time of 11.19 (+1.6) while Freeman fell in step behind her teammate at 11.20 (+1.6) for silver at Paralympic Track Stadium. The duo broke away early and their advantage was never threatened as the bronze medalist finished nearly a quarter of a second behind them.
Scott and Freeman will be in action again Saturday in the 4x100 relay at 9 p.m. ET. UCF also boasts a representative in the field as Sonnisha Williams will compete in the long jump Sunday.
