MEMPHIS, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - Following a first-round victory over SMU Thursday, the UCF women's tennis team suffered a 4-0 quarterfinal loss to No. 2 seed Rice Friday in the Conference USA Championship in Memphis. The No. 7-seeded Knights completed their 2012 season with a 10-11 record, marking the 21st-straight season the program produced at least 10 victories.

With their win, the No. 40-ranked Owls improved to 15-7 and advanced to the semifinals Saturday.

Rice opened up a 1-0 advantage by picking up a pair of victories in doubles play. At the No. 2 position, Katie Gater and Ana Guzman topped UCF's Alexis Rodriguez and Jenna Doerfler, 8-1. And to seal the doubles point, No. 33 Natalie Beazant and Dominique Harmath defeated No. 85 Genevieve Lorbergs and Courtney Griffith, 8-1, at the top spot.

UCF hoped for a comeback in singles play, but the Owls were able to claim three victories for the overall team win. Ranked No. 40 in the nation in singles, Beazant pulled out a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Lorbergs at No. 1, and Harmath earned a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Rodriguez at No. 2. To close out the afternoon session, Kimberly Anicete edged Josephine Haraldson at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3.
