ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team will make its NCAA postseason return after a three-year hiatus beginning Thursday at noon when it tees off at the NCAA East Regional in State College, Penn.
The Knights will be one of 24 teams vying for a top-eight finish at the three-day tournament to advance to the NCAA Championships held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
This is the ninth regional appearance in program history and first under head coach Courtney Trimble. Since becoming a varsity sport in 1982-83, UCF has competed at the NCAA Championships once back in 1996 when it finished 15th overall.
UCF is seeded 13th in the regional and will see many familiar opponents from this season, including Alabama, Augusta State, Chattanooga, Florida, FIU, Furman, Georgia State, South Carolina, Texas and C-USA foe Tulane.
Teeing up for the Knights in Happy Valley on the 6,253-yard Blue Course will be freshmen Katie Mitchell and Monifa Sealy at No. 1 and 2, junior Carolin Pinegger at No. 3, sophomore Kaitlyn Price at No. 4 and junior Valentina Fontaine at No. 5.
It has been quite a successful season for UCF as it claimed two tournament titles for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign. The Knights placed runner-up at the Conference USA Championship for the second time since joining the league and are in the midst of their lowest season average in school history (299.21 per round).
