UCF Women's Golf Concludes Action At Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships

Knoxville, Tenn. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team wrapped up play at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Sunday as sophomore Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) fired her second-consecutive 73 (+2) to lead the Knights in final round action. Hurwich edged teammate Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) for the best finish among the Knights. Hurwich tied for 34th with a three-day total of 223 (+10), while Tomimbang was one stroke behind at 224 (+11) to finish tied for 37th. Junior Stephanie Connelly (Pasadena, Md./The Pendleton School) poster her best score of the tournament in her last 18 holes, firing a 75 (+4). Connelly tied for 65th (230, +17). Freshman Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnehaha) and sophomore Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium/Brandenton Acadmey) rounded out the team scoring for UCF, posting an 80 (+9) and 81 (+10), respectively , in their final rounds. Florida held on to win the team title (865, +13) as Gator standout Sandra Gal shared medalist honors with Auburn's Cydney Clanton. Gal and Clanton posted identical 54-hole scores of 210 (-3) to tie for first. Purdue took second (870, +18) finishing five shots behind the Gators. Arkansas (878, +26), Auburn (879, +27) and Kent State (881, +29), rounded out the top five on the team leaderboard. UCF finished in 17th.
The Knights will return to tournament action at their third-consecutive event hosted by a Southeastern Conference school when they play at the Alabama-Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 26-28.
