UCF Women's Golf Improves Team Score At Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships

(www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team concluded round two play at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships with a 301 (+17) on Saturday, improving five strokes as a team from Friday's first round action. Sara Hurwitch (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) and Mayule Tomimbang (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway) each fired a 73 (+2) in their respective second rounds to lead the Knights. For Tomimbang, it was her low round of the season (148, +6), placing her a team-high 34th on the individual leaderboard. Hurwitch and Tomimbang each had three birdies on the day, while junior Stephanie Connelly led the team with four birdies. Connelly carded a 76 (+5), which was a three-shot improvement from her opening round, giving her a two-round total of 155 (+13). Sophomore Victoria Tomko shot a 79 (+8), while freshman Katie Detlefsen carded an 82 (+11). Florida moved up three spots and took the team lead after posting a 288 (+4), giving them a two-round total of 577 (+9). The Gators hold a five-shot lead on Purdue and first-round leader Arkansas, who are both at 582 (+14) and tied for second. Denver moved up to fourth (585, +17), while Auburn and Virginia are tied for fifth with scores of 588 (+20). The Knights are in 17th, with just nine strokes separating 13th-place SMU and UCF. Alabama's Kathleen Ekey maintained her overall lead with a 70. Through two rounds, Ekey has a total 138 (-4) after her second-straight round under par. Arkansas' Stacy Lewis and Florida's Sandra Gal are tied for second, two strokes back at 140 (-2). Final round play is scheduled for Sunday. Full tournament results are available at www.golfstat.com.
