ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team has the opportunity to pick up its second sweep of the season when it travels to Marshall this Sunday at 2 p.m.
In February's meeting in Orlando, the Knights (12-16, 6-8) shined in front of a national television audience with a 67-52 win over the Thundering Herd (9-18, 3-11) thanks in part to four double-digit scorers. UCF's defense was just as efficient, limiting Marshall's leading scorer Shay Weaver to just 2 points, and handcuffing the league's most productive 3-point shooting squad to a paltry 11.8 percent performance (2-of-17) from behind the arc.
UCF senior Gevenia Carter heads into the weekend 10 points shy of reaching the 1,000-career points milestone. She would become the 16th Knight to achieve the feat and one of nine active players in Conference USA to join the club.
The odds of Carter hitting the mark against Marshall are in her favor as she currently boasts a streak of eight-straight double-figure scoring outings -- the longest of her career. Carter has scored in double figures in all but four games so far this season.
Freshman Briahanna Jackson could also make history this weekend by breaking the C-USA freshman single-season steals record. With 91 thefts to her name, she is two steals shy of passing USF's Dione Smith's 15-year-old record and is four swipes short of breaking onto the league's overall top-10 list.
Marshall started off conference play with an 0-6 start before nabbing its first win against Memphis. The Herd are coming off back-to-back losses. Weaver paces the team in scoring with an average of 9.6 points per game.
