ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team (12-14, 7-7 C-USA) continues its five-day road trip hoping to rebound at Houston (2-24, 1-13 C-USA) when the Knights visit the Cougars for the first time in three years. UCF is looking for its first-ever win at Hofheinz Pavilion when it tips off at 1 p.m. eastern in front of a live national television audience on FOX Sports Network.
The game marks the return of junior guard Gevenia Carter to her hometown. Carter played basketball at Westfield High School, which is about 23 miles north of from Houston's campus. When she graduated in 2009, Carter was the sixth-highest ranked player from the state of Texas, which had three of the nation's top five recruits. Carter has a total of four 20-point games this season and ranks fifth in the league with 14.2 points per game in C-USA contests.
Although Houston won its conference opener against Southern Miss on Jan. 5, the Cougars have not won a game since. Houston is most recently coming off a 68-40 loss to Rice, and the team holds a 1-14 record at home this year. Porsche Landry paces the team with 22 points per game, and Roxanna Button adds 17.9 points per game.
The Cougars rank last in the conference for several statistical categories including points per game (52.9), scoring defense (71.5), field goal percentage (.323), rebounding margin (-9.9), assists (7.8) and steals (7.2). Todd Buchanan is serving his second season as head coach.
The game will air live on a number of FOX Sports affiliates, including FOX Sports Florida. The game will re-air on Sunday at 10 p.m. eastern and on Monday at 1 p.m. eastern on SportSouth.
As always, the IMG Sports Network will broadcast all of UCF's games live on UCFAthletics.com with a subscription plan. Scott Adams will provide the play-by-play. Live stats are also available via UCFAthletics.com.
