ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team returns to UCF Arena this Thursday at 7 p.m. to take on Tulane.
Thursday's matchup is billed as UCF Student Day. The first 500 students who attend will receive free Knightmare T-shirts and foam swords. Students can enter a drawing for a free iPad, which will be given away at the game, at a table on the concourse of the student section.
The Knights (7-12, 1-4) are coming off their first win in conference play and played some of their best basketball this season at Memphis. UCF recorded season highs in rebounds (46) and assists (17) and posted its second-best shooting percentage of the year (.417) while junior forward Erika Jones' .636 shooting percentage against the Tigers ranked as the best offensive output by a Knight this season.
Gevenia Carter has been a problem for Tulane in the past as the senior has scored in double-figures in each of the last three meetings. Carter netted a team-high 16 points at Tulane last year. Prior to that, she put up 15 points in the 2010-11 regular season meeting and 10 points in the conference championship that year.
Tulane (14-4, 3-2) was selected as the C-USA preseason pick of the year. The Green Wave ranks first in the league for blocked shots (91) and second for field goal (.408) and 3-point field goal (.339) percentages. The team just saw its three-game win streak halted in a 3-point loss to East Carolina on Sunday.
Whitney Bibbins leads the Green Wave in scoring with 12.9 points per game. All-Conference USA First Team selection Olivia Grayson and Tiffany Dale share the team lead for rebounding with an average of 6.1 boards apiece. Last season's C-USA Freshman of the Year, Danielle Blagg, has been coming on strong in league play with a team-high 13.2 points per game.
