ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team begins its final run through a Conference USA slate this Thursday when it welcomes UAB to the UCF Arena at 7 p.m. The Knights (6-8) are looking to extend their three-game win streak while the Blazers (9-4) are coming off a loss in their final matchup of a four-game homestand.
Thursday's matchup marks the first time UCF has squared off against UAB in the opener. The Knights hold a 3-2 record under head coach Joi Williams in C-USA opening contests.
One lucky UCF student has a chance to win a free iPad. Students can enter a drawing for the iPad at a table on the concourse of the student section at the game.
Each team recorded a win at its home venue last season. In the last meeting, UCF came out on top by holding UAB to 11 points in the second half, which tied the fifth-lowest offensive output in a half in C-USA history.
The Knights return to UCF Arena for the first time since Dec. 19 when their three-game win streak kicked off against South Alabama. Since then, UCF has logged respectable road wins against reigning Atlantic Sun champion Florida Gulf Coast and eight-time defending MAC champion Bowling Green.
The Blazers feature a pair of returning second-team All-Conference USA selections in senior guard Amber Jones and junior forward Karisma Chapman. UAB is one of two C-USA teams to return two players named first-or second-team all-conference last season.
Next fall, UCF will begin its first campaign in the BIG EAST.
