NOTRE DAME, Ind. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing in its first road game since the season opener on Nov. 12, the UCF women's basketball team was overwhelmed by No. 3 Notre Dame, 90-38, on Tuesday night. The Fighting Irish (11-1) rolled to its eight-straight win as the Knights drop to 5-6 on the season.
Senior Aisha Patrick led the Knights in scoring with 10 points for her eighth game in double figures this year. In her first game this season after rehabbing from injury, sophomore forward Sarah Green grabbed three rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench.
Junior guard Skylar Diggins recorded a game-high 14 points to lead six players in double figures for Notre Dame.
Diggins tallied the Irish's first four points to help Notre Dame take a 7-0 lead before Ashia Kelly scored UCF's first basket at 17:22. From that point, BIG EAST Player of the Week Natalie Novosel's three-pointer sparked Notre Dame on an insurmountable 24-3 run. After the break, the Irish closed out the game by outscoring UCF 39-22 in the second half.
UCF returns home Dec. 30 to face Florida State at 4:30 p.m. prior to the UCF men's basketball Holiday Classic championship game at 7 p.m. Women's basketball season tickets, which start at $49 for a fan pack of two, are still available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
