ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team will look to extend its winning streak to a season-high four when it hosts No. 33 Cornell Wednesday. The match is slated for a 10 a.m. start time at the UCF Tennis Complex and admission is free.
"Wednesday's matchup against a ranked Cornell squad will be a huge test for our squad to assess where we stand at this point of the season," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "We have played ranked teams close lately and I feel we're on the cusp of knocking off a top opponent as long as we continue to start fast and stay grounded."
Winners of three-straight matches for the first time since Feb. 24, UCF has been hot lately with notable victories over UC-Irvine, Cleveland State and Marquette. Friday the Knights handled the Golden Eagles, 5-2, to improve their record to 9-6 on the season.
The Black and Gold has been dominant at home in 2013, boasting an impressive 6-1 record at the UCF Tennis Complex. The No. 29 team in the nation has not lost an away match all season heading into the showdown.
Cornell is 10-4 on the season but has dropped back-to-back matches for the first time all year. The Big Red loss 4-1 to Texas Tech Friday and 4-1 to Notre Dame Saturday in Montgomery, Ala.
UCF has knocked off the school from Ithaca, N.Y., twice in the past, both times in shutout fashion with the ladder coming in 2008.
