ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Jorge Blasco picked up another big singles victory Saturday as the UCF men's tennis team continued play at its home event, the UCF Spring Invitational. Alabama, Indiana, Louisville and Radford are also competing at the three-day event at the UCF Tennis Complex.
Blasco defeated the No. 113 ranked player in the country, Andrew Carter of Louisville, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. The victory comes a day after he topped Alabama's Ricky Doverspike to open the tournament.
"Jorge just finds a way to get it done out there," UCF head coach Bobby Cashman said. "He competes hard for every point and finds a way to win no matter what the score is."
Also coming through for the Knights were Erik Brunskog and Eugene Dolgovykh. The pair defeated a doubles team that is ranked 24th in the country. The Knights topped Carter and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, 8-5.
"Erik and Eugene played a complete match today and played the right way. If you play simple doubles and execute, you can compete with anyone and those two did that today," Cashman said.
Mario Samson also recorded a win for UCF Saturday. Play at the tournament will conclude Sunday. The Knights will start the day at 9:30 a.m.
"Louisville is a tough team. They are a top 30 program and we hung with them today. We competed hard and are starting to believe that we can play with top level teams," Cashman said.
