HOOVER, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team concluded a successful season Wednesday with a 3-1 loss at UAB in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals at Regions Park. The Knights were the No. 3 seed at the event, while host UAB is the No. 6 seed.
UAB (10-6-2) grabbed a 2-0 edge in the 41st minute when Chase Wickham scored the second of his two goals. But less than four minutes later, with only four seconds remaining in the half, Steven Lamberta cut the deficit to a goal when he scored from 18 yards out after the Blazers were unable to clear the ball.
The Knights, who conclude the year at 8-7-3, would get no closer. UAB added a Diego Navarrete goal in the 52nd minute.
UAB will face No. 1 seed Tulsa in the semifinals Friday.
The Blazers finished with a 20-17 shot advantage. UCF keeper Sebastian Evers totaled six saves.
UCF was playing its third-straight game away from home.
The campaign was filled with plenty of highlights for the Knights, who went 5-3 in league play. During the regular season, UCF faced a challenging schedule with matches against four ranked opponents. The Knights picked up a huge C-USA victory in mid-October when they topped No. 17 SMU, 1-0, in Orlando.
UCF earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament with a pair of road victories last week. The Knights were 1-0 winners at Kentucky and Marshall.
