TULSA, Okla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Facing its second-straight ranked opponent, the UCF men's soccer team was unable to get past No. 30 Tulsa Sunday, falling 3-1 at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium. The Golden Hurricane (10-4-1, 4-1-1 Conference USA) scored the final three goals of the match.
The Knights (5-5-3, 2-2-0) grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the 37th minute when McKauly Tulloch scored off a feed from Omar Vallejo. The goal was the fifth of the season for the forward. Tulsa answered right back three minutes later with a goal from Bradley Bourgeois that tied the match.
The hosts added two goals in a five-minute span in the second half that started with an Omar Mata penalty-kick goal. Bryce Follensbee added a score in the 69th minute.
UCF was playing a ranked opponent for the fourth time this season. Last Sunday, the Knights recorded a 1-0 victory over No. 17 SMU.
UCF keeper Sebastian Evers totaled 12 saves in the losing effort.
"Tulsa is a very good team and very tough to beat at home," UCF head coach Bryan Cunningham said. "We had a goal that I thought settled us down, but they came right back. Throughout the day, we just weren't able to capitalize on opportunities that we had. Our guys need to be resilient and get ready to host a great Memphis team on Wednesday."
The Knights will return to Orlando for their final home matches of the season this week. UCF will host Memphis Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then welcome UAB to the UCF Soccer Complex Saturday evening.
