Steven Bain is a steady performer who puts in long hours to improve his game. He has the ability to be a mainstay in the UCF lineup. He will look to make more of an impact after appearing in only three events as a junior.
Spring 2007:Competed as an individual at the Rio Pinar Invitational...Posted his lowest score since his freshman season in the final round, carding a 69 (-3) to tie for 25th in the individual standings...Also had an even-par 72 in the second round.
Fall 2006: Was in UCF's lineup for the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational, placing 83rd.
As a Junior (2005-06): Bain played in only two events in team competition, but made the most of his opportunities. His score counted in five of the six rounds he posted. He also played in one tournament as an individual. His best outing of the year came in the Conference USA Championship where he was a late addition to the lineup. He opened with his low round of the year, an even-par 72, and then carded identical 1-over 73s in the second and third rounds to finish tied for 22nd at 2-over. He helped UCF to a runner-up finish in its first Conference USA Championship appearance.
As a Sophomore (2004-05): Bain played in five events for the Golden Knights, two of those events were as an individual. He posted one sub-par score in 15 rounds and registered one top-20 finish. His best outing came in his first event of the year when he tied for 16th at the Memphis Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club. He posted his low round of the year when he shot a 2-under 70 in the opening round at Memphis en route to finishing at 6-over for the event. He finished the year with a 76.87 stroke average. The summer after his sophomore year he qualified for the U.S. Amateur when he shot a 7-under 137 in a 36-hole local qualifier at Rio Pinar Country Club.
As a Freshman (2003-04): Bain made an immediate impact and wound up playing in 11 of the 13 events. He posted four top 20 finishes on the year, including a pair of 13th-place showings at the General Jim Hackler Invitational in Murrells Inlet, S.C. and at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in Buies Creek, N.C. He finished with the fourth-lowest stroke average on the team at 75.48. His best round of the year came in the final round of the Fall Beach Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. when he shot a 5-under 67. He finished the tournament at 4-under 212 and tied for 19th.
Prior to UCF: Bain was a four-year letterman at Trinity Prep in Orlando. He was a four-time all-county and three-time all-region performer and also earned all-state honors. He also lettered one season in track. He was named his team's MVP three times during his prep career. His junior experience includes a pair of wins and a pair of runner-up finishes on the FJGA circuit. He finished runner-up in the high school state championships in 1999, and he was twice the low qualifier locally for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. He played in three U.S. Junior Amateur Championships and one U.S Amateur Championship during his junior career.
Personal: Steven Bain was born in the Bahamas, and is the son of Donald and Michele Bain. He is majoring in finance.
