ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF football heads into the holiday break still smiling from its 38-17 victory over Ball State in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl in St. Petersburg Dec. 21. The Knights held the Cardinals to their fewest total yards all season (288) to win their 10th game of 2012.
The UCF defense also did not surrender a rushing touchdown, marking just BSU's second game this year it did not have a rushing score. With only 71, it was Ball State's only contest it failed to produce 100 rushing yards.
Over on the offense, Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl MVP Blake Bortles was responsible for four touchdowns including three in the air and one on the ground. He ended the year with a streak of 174 pass attempts without an interception, which stands as the UCF all-time record.
For the year, Bortles was 251-for-399 for a 62.9 completion percentage. He also threw for 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. His 3,059 passing yards are the fifth-most in UCF single-season history.
Running back Latavius Murray, meanwhile, helped the senior class win its 34th game from 2009-12, giving it the title as the winningest senior class dating back to the program's inception in 1979. Murray lost just one fumble in his entire career, and finished with a streak of 407-straight carries without losing a fumble.
