ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's Isaiah Sykes is on pace to achieve a feat that some of the best players in Conference USA history, including Dwyane Wade, Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and Kenyon Martin, were unable to complete.
No C-USA player has finished conference competition ranked in the league's top 10 in points, rebounds, steals and assists. With one game - Saturday at Southern Miss - remaining on UCF's schedule, Sykes could become the first.
The junior is eighth in league play in scoring (16.5), sixth in boards (8.5), seventh in assists (4.3) and first in steals (2.3).
The Detroit native has two triple-doubles this season and is the only active player in the nation to post the accomplishment multiple times during their career.
Sykes' numbers in league play this year display the great strides that he has made during his time in Orlando. As a freshman, he averaged 1.9 points, 2.1 boards, 0.5 assists and 0.4 steals against C-USA foes. A year ago, he jumped up to 13.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals an outing.
