A day after matching his best output with 34 points against Penn, Jermaine Taylor established a career high with 38 points in Tuesday's victory. Taylor now has four 30-point performances in 2008-09.
Taylor garnered UCF Holiday Classic MVP honors for the second-consecutive season. A year ago, he averaged 20.5 points in a pair of UCF victories at the event.
Taylor is now averaging 23.0 points per game this year. He has led the Knights in scoring in 11 of the team's 12 contests.
He made 3-of-7 shots from deep against the Cougars and now has attempted 500 3-pointers as a Knight. That mark ties Taylor with former teammate Mike O'Donnell for second all-time at UCF in 3-point attempts with 500. Jason Thornton attempted a school-record 505 treys from 1998-02.
The Knights claimed the tournament title for the third-straight year.
UCF improved to 6-0 at home this season. Dating back to last year, UCF has won 10-consecutive contests at the UCF Arena.
With the win, UCF improved to 3-0 all-time against Chicago State.
A.J. Rompza, who joined Taylor on the all-tournament team, matched a career-best with 10 assists. The freshman also totaled six steals in 33 minutes.
Kenrick Zondervan made his 70th career start for the Knights Tuesday evening. Zondervan matched his season high by grabbing seven boards to go with 10 points.
In only seven minutes of action, Jakub Kusmieruk recorded a career-high eight points. He also added two rebounds, a steal and his first career blocked shot.
