Garrett DeGroot kicks off his third season as an assistant athletic trainer at UCF in 2009-10, while he also oversees graduate assistant trainers. DeGroot began his career in the Toronto minor league system working as the head trainer with the Charleston AlleyCats from 2000-02. He also worked as the head trainer with the Lara Cardenales in the Venezuelan League in 2001. DeGroot then spent time with the University of Rhode Island, and was the medical coordinator for the three Atlantic 10 Championships.

DeGroot is a 1999 graduate of Western Maryland College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and exercise science, with a double minor in athletic training and coaching. He also received his master's degree in exercise, fitness and health promotion from George Mason in 2000.

A native of East Syracuse, N.Y., DeGroot holds certification with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), and memberships in the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Athletic Trainers Association of Florida (ATAF).
