ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF cross country team continues its postseason run when it heads to Tallahassee, Fla., for the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championship on Friday at 8:30 a.m. The meet, which is hosted by Florida State, will feature 29 programs competing for the regional title.
Once again the Knights will be represented by a host of freshmen accompanied by two sophomores Amelia Williams and Shelby Blaes along with the team's only senior Jessica Pachay, who ran her personal best of 19:37.7 at the Conference USA Championships. The freshmen will be led by Anne-Marie Blaney, the Knights' top runner this season.
"I am a big believer in momentum and how running well at NCAA South Regionals can take us to higher heights throughout the indoor and outdoor (track and field) seasons" UCF coach Paul Brown said. "I am looking for our team to take a big step forward this race with great competition."
Competition is what drives freshman Caroline Pauls to compete at her highest potential. Alongside Pauls and Blaney will be fellow freshman Heather Classe. Classe was the second finisher for the Knights in both the FLRunners and Black and Gold meet, and she was the third point scorer at the C-USA meet behind Pauls.
Freshman Amy Ankli will round out the seven Knights competing at the meet.
"We can use this meet as a way to continue to build momentum for the rest of the year," Brown said.
