ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFathletics.com) --- The UCF cross country team woke up to overcast skies and a steady rain, but the Knights still managed to finished sixth at the Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday. The result marked their best showing since the season opener and improved upon their 10th place showing in the same meet last season.
"It was quite rainy and muddy conditions in the meet so I think that threw our student-athletes off a little bit," Coach Paul Brown said. "I'm OK with how we ended up when I look at the results. I think we have some areas to grow in, and we will make some adjustments in the training schedule to do everything we possibly can to be at our best for the conference meet in three weeks."
Freshman Jamie Perzanowski paced UCF for the fourth consecutive meet with a time of 19:15.60 for a 15th-place showing.
Freshman Cody Castillo notched a personal best with a time of 20:04.00, and sophomore Erica Winston posted a season best, coming in at 20:35.60.
After battling an injury that impeded her progress for the first half of the season, sophomore Danielle Scaffidi competed in her second meet of the year and improved upon her time from a week ago by more than a minute, clocking 20:43.20.
"She definitely took a big step forward and improved, so I'm pleased with that," Brown said.
