Dennis Kozub begins his first season as the volunteer assistant coach for the UCF women's cross country team. An accomplished coach with 34 years of coaching experience, Kozub has led teams to seven state championships.
Kozub worked as a cross country and track and field coach with the Alden Central School District from 1978-2005, where he also chaired the Health and Physical Education department. From 1985-2005, Kozub's girls' cross country squads won 14 division championships and posted a record of 162-16. He also led the girls' track and field team to 18 division titles and a 127-6 record.
Kozub has also coached 17 junior All-Americans with USA Track and Field. From 1974-76, he served as the head coach at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y.
After serving active duty in the United States Army from 1967-1970, Kozub went to Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. He was an All-American in track, helping his team to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship. Kozub graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education before earning a master's degree in Physical Education in 1977.
Kozub's daughter Karen was a successful cross country and track runner at UCF, completing her career and graduating in 2008. He is the father of four children, all of whom are serving in some capacity in the United States military.
