This will be a big weekend for the UCF Cheerleaders, who will be competing in the College Cheerleading National Championships being held at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
UCF’s Cheerleaders have put together six consecutive top-three finishes at this event and won the Division IA National Championship in both 2003 and 2007.
“The team has worked incredibly hard to successfully balance the demands of school, supporting our UCF athletic teams throughout the fall as well as training for their own upcoming championship,” head coach Linda Gooch said.
UCF received a perfect score of 15 on their Crowd Highlight Video, which shows their outreach in the Central Florida community as well as leading crowds at UCF athletic events. This score accounts for 15 percent of the team’s score at the championships and will give the team a boost heading into the competition.
The focus of this year’s team has been on conditioning and consistency, according to Coach Gooch.
“We worked very hard with our strength coaches last spring and this fall to prepare the team for the demanding second half of this year’s routine,” Gooch said. “Unique and difficult stunt sequences and a creative ending pyramid are highlights to look for.”
