UCF Athletics Mission Statement

Mission and Guiding Principles {as of 8/8/2002}

The mission of the Department of Athletics is to provide our student-athletes the opportunity to participate in a quality intercollegiate athletics experience that allows them to grow athletically and academically, and serves as an integral component of their total educational experience at the University.

UCF Athletics enhances the visibility of the University by serving as a portal to broaden and strengthen interest in and involvement with the University on a local, regional, and national level. UCF Athletics also provides a rallying point to unite the diverse elements the University serves - the student body, the campus community, the alumni, the metropolitan community and other external constituencies.

In order to help us fulfill the mission, the Department of Athletics will embrace the following guiding principles:

To develop and maintain a highly competitive and sound athletics program - reaching a standard of excellence in athletics consistent with the mission of the University.

To promote character development, leadership qualities, sportsmanship and academic excellence in our student-athletes.

To employ coaches and staff members who exhibit and promote high standards of integrity and ethical behavior, including good sportsmanship and a desire to assist student-athletes in reaching their academic and athletic potential.

To ensure equitable ethnic and gender opportunities among its coaches, staff and student-athletes, consistent with the University's diversity mission.

To promote academic integrity by recruiting student-athletes who are capable of success in the University's academic program, providing academic support and student development opportunities, and effectively integrating student-athletes into the student body.

To provide high quality service to both internal and external customers.

To enhance the sense of camaraderie and pride in individuals within the University community including: students, staff, faculty, alumni and community friends.

To maintain fiscal and operational integrity by balancing budgets and carrying out sound management practices.

To comply with and follow the principle of institutional control in operating our athletics program in a manner that is consistent with the letter and the spirit of the NCAA, the Conference and the University rules and regulations.

To ensure each departmental unit functions responsibly and with accountability in all its initiatives, programs, and operations.

The Vision of UCF Athletics is...

...to become an exemplary program focusing on both academic and athletics excellence. As UCF Athletics moves forward into the 21st century, it envisions a program of character, integrity, and high respect within intercollegiate athletics, while continuing its tradition as a winning program. UCF Athletics aspires to perform at the highest level of competition necessary to achieve prominent status within the highly competitive athletic world. UCF Athletics will become a nationally recognized program with the reputation of graduating academically superior athletes, role models, and future leaders.

UCF Athletics 5-Year Long Term Goals are...

1. To expedite facilities development in accordance with the UCF Athletics Master Plan.

2. Increase revenue generated by UCF Athletics.

3. To comply with both the spirit and the letter of the law of NCAA, Conference, University, State, and Federal guidelines.

4. Increase retention rates, graduation rates, and overall academic performance of student-athletes.

5. Improve overall competitive excellence in all sports.

6. To have all sports ultimately affiliated within the same conference.

7. To maintain fiscal and operational integrity.

8. To create a positive and dynamic work environment.

9. Develop and maintain partnerships with the UCF community, the Orlando metropolitan area, and all other external constituencies.
