Leigh Torbin Hometown: Framingham, Mass. High School: St. Mark's Last College: UMass '98 Position: Director of Athletics Communications

Leigh Torbin joined the UCF Athletics staff in August of 2008 as the Director of Communications. He serves as the publicist for the UCF football and women's golf teams.

Immediately prior to UCF, Torbin spent six years as an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Connecticut where he was the primary football contact. During Torbin's time at UConn, the Huskies played their first six seasons at the FBS level and first four seasons in the BIG EAST Conference. He was there as UConn opened its new $91 million home stadium, Rentschler Field, and new $50 campus home, the Burton Family Football Complex and Mark R. Shenkman Training Center. Torbin was the lead media contact for each of UConn's first two bowl appearances and 2007 BIG EAST Championship. Torbin worked with a wide variety of Olympic sports in Storrs and also helped out with the men's and women's basketball teams which won three national titles in this span.

Torbin was an Assistant SID at Florida from 2000-02, working as the top assistant for football and also the primary men's tennis contact. The Gators appeared in the 2001 Nokia Sugar Bowl and 2002 FedEx Orange Bowl while also capturing the 2000 SEC Championship during this time, the final two seasons of Steve Spurrier's tenure as head coach in Gainesville. The Gators were ranked No. 1 in the nation for parts of the 2001 season behind Heisman Trophy runner-up Rex Grossman. The Gators were one of the nation's most prominent programs during this time, regularly appearing on CBS, ESPN and ESPN's College GameDay. UF's men's tennis team also made two straight NCAA Regional appearances, hosting in 2002 en route to the NCAA Championships.

As an assistant at Vanderbilt from 1998-2000, Torbin served as the top assistant for football and also the primary contact for men's and women's tennis. Under Woody Widenhofer, the Commodores' 1999 campaign was one of the school's most successful between 1982-2008. The VU tennis teams also were regulars in the NCAA Regionals with the women advancing to the NCAA Championships in both 1999 and 2000. Torbin was tournament manager for the 2000 NCAA women's tennis regional at Vanderbilt. While living in Nashville, Torbin also worked for SportsTicker at most home games during the NHL's Nashville Predators inaugural season, still one of his biggest professional thrills.

As an undergraduate at Massachusetts, Torbin worked for four years for the UMass Media Relations Office and also wrote for most of his academic career for the Massachusetts Daily Collegian. Torbin worked with nearly all of UMass' 29 sports at some point but was primarily involved with women's soccer, men's ice hockey, women's basketball, softball, cross country and track and field. His time with the softball team included trips to Oklahoma City for the 1997 and 1998 Women's College World Series with the Minutewomen while he also attended several stages of the NCAA women's soccer championships working with UCF Athletic Hall of Fame coach Jim Rudy who was at UMass then. Torbin also got his first look at a large national media crowd as the men's basketball team went to the 1995 Elite Eight and 1996 Final Four under John Calipari. His writing for the Collegian focused heavily on hockey, including weekly NHL and national college hockey roundups in addition to UMass' first years playing in Hockey East.

Torbin stays active on the national college football scene by assisting with the game week efforts of the FedEx Orange Bowl. He has worked each of the last eight Orange Bowl games. Overall, Torbin has worked 14 bowl games in the 11 years since his graduation, including 10 BCS affairs, two of which were national championship games. He has also worked the NCAA men's and women's basketball championships multiple times, including serving as the media coordinator for the 2005 women's first/second round games at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. He is an active member of the Football Writers Association of America and the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A native of Framingham, Mass., Torbin earned a bachelor's degree from UMass' nationally-renowned sports management program in 1998. He is single and resides in Orlando.
