Steve Edwards played offensive guard for the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants over five seasons in the NFL. He was originally signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Central Florida.
In 2004, he started eight of the 15 games in which he played - six at right guard and two at left guard. The previous season, Edwards switched to guard from tackle after the final preseason game because of an injury to Rex Tucker and started all 16 contests at left guard. Edwards entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Philadelphia in 2002. He spent five weeks on the Eagles practice squad before the Bears signed him. Edwards was inactive until the season's final game, when he made his NFL debut on special teams.
Edwards started 20 games in two seasons at Central Florida. He began his college career at Tennessee State, and then attended West Hills Community College in California. He was raised in Chicago, where as a freshman at Mt. Carmel High School, he was a teammate of Donovan McNabb, then a senior. Edwards attended St. Barnabas Grade School in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood.
