John Denton joined the UCF athletics communications staff in August 2009 as a staff writer. His Knights Insider stories appear several times per week on UCFAthletics.com.
Denton worked as a professional journalist for newspapers in Tennessee and Florida the past 18 years. Originally from Milan, Tenn., Denton worked at The Jackson Sun in Jackson, Tenn., from 1992-97. He spent the next 11 years at Florida Today in Melbourne, covering UCF, the Orlando Magic and the NFL.
Denton covered the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, eight NBA All-Star Games, four Super Bowls, four NBA Finals, the NBA's China Games in Shanghai and Macao and several other major sporting events. Denton has done extensive work with ESPN, reporting for "First Take" and "SportsCenter" and writing for ESPN.com.
Also, Denton has won several national writing awards, including three Best of Gannett national awards.
Denton played college football at Tennessee-Martin. He was a part of the 1988 Pacers team that won a Gulf South Conference championship.
